Students in SEL gain hands-on research experience while contributing to meaningful social science work. Lab members will have the opportunity to engage in one or more of the following:

  • Formulate a research question
  • Design a study
  • Design survey and/or experiment instruments
  • Field surveys and/or experiments
  • Analyze data
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Write research papers
  • Present research

How Can I Apply?

Although applications are currently closed, here’s what the process typically looks like for students interested in joining the Social Experiments Lab:

  1. Complete the Application Form: Click the link to the Microsoft Form and provide your details and experiences by answering all the questions.
  2. Review and Submit: Double-check your responses, then press Submit.
  3. Confirmation: You will receive a confirmation message once your application is submitted.
  4. Next Steps: After our team reviews all submissions, selected applicants will receive an email with instructions for the next steps. Be sure to check your inbox!

Lab Structure & Course Options

Lab Meetings: Mondays from 10 to 11 AM.

Participation Options:

  • Enroll in an independent study with Dr. Corbett for 1–3 credits
  • Enroll in SOCI 40003: Internship in Sociology for 3 credits (approx. 12 hours/week + virtual check-ins with Professor Chris Shields)
  • Participate without course credit for research experience and skill development
